This week has been beyond hectic and I’ve been counting down the days until Saturday – a day filled without any obligations or commitments.  Today I slept in, made breakfast and headed to Soho with Maria. As always, I ended up with some pieces from Zara – it’s merely impossible to walk out of there empty handed…

Now I have to get ready for dinner and drinks with a friends. I have no idea where we’re going, and thus I have no clue what to wear. Wish me luck!

How’s your Saturday?

Shadow Sunglasses In Black And Havana Acetate With Brown Shaded Lenses

When I got home this evening, I was thrilled to see a FedEx package lying on the salon table. I opened the box, and there they were, my new sunnies from Céline. I’ve been looking for a pair like these since I lost my square Saint Laurent shades a couple of years back. They’re casual, cool, and will go great with any outfit. And, of course, they protect my eyes to the outmost satisfaction.  What’s not to love?

September/December

Is it to early to push play on my Spotify Christmas list? I just did. With a chai latte in my hand, and New York Times in the other, I’m sitting at the library listening to Michael Buble’s “Baby It’s Cold Outside”. In all fairness, the temperatures did drop below 20 Celsius yesterday. And even though I’ve been loving this summer heat, I can’t wait till the temperatures allow coats, scarves, boots, and gloves. Nothing beats fall fashion!

Other than that, my days are hectic like always. We have tons of assignments at school, various presentations and exams are starting to pop up. Positive note – the days go by very fast and before I know it, it’s December!

BIRTHDAY GIRL

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again – I love birthdays and all that comes with. The celebration, being surrounded by family and friends, the messages, the gestures, the presents, and of course, the cake. It’s a wonderful tradition that always makes me realize how fortunate I am.

The celebration of my 21st birthday started yesterday with a pre party at our place. A wine bottle or two later, we headed to some bars on Lower East Side. Good drinks, good friends, and lots of laughter pretty much sums up the night. Today, I woke up to cupcakes, flowers, Prosecco and gifts. Needless to say – I’m a pretty happy girl right now. A 21 year old girl, that is.

How was your weekend?

Let’s talk business

When I moved to New York two years ago, I quickly realized that there is one factor that determines your success more than anything else: your network. That said, gaining a network takes action, lot’s of action. You have to attend events, lectures, and industry gatherings. Meet people that can mentor and help you along the way. But what’s the point of meeting all these people if they forget who you are as soon as you leave the room? Enter, Business card.

No matter what you do, who you are, or what business you are in, you should always have a business card available. It’s a quick, professional, and easy way to exchange contact information and make a lasting impression.

Since I quit my last internship, I had to get some new, updated business cards. This time I order them from MOO.Com, and I’m very happy with the outcome: they’re clean, simple, and to the point.

The power of clothes

I am a firm believer that dress up begins at an early age, and never truly ends. I was three years old when I picked out my first outfit, and I still remember the feeling. Excitement and creativity but simultaneously frustration; I wanted to wear everything in my closet. I ended up wearing a dress, a hair-bow and rainboots that reached above my knees. Even though it wasn’t the trendiest outfit it kindergarten, I liked it and I loved the feeling it gave me. A lot has changed since then, including my sense of style, but I still wake up every morning excited to experiment with colors, fabrics, shoes and jewelry.

Today, however, was not one of those days; I felt tired, sluggish and overwhelmed by assignments, deadlines and obligations. Nonetheless, I ignored the voice in my head and dressed for the mood I wished to be in. Nothing says happy and energized like a feminine skirt, and a fierce, leopard blouse. And that’s all it took for me to go from a staying-at-home-wathcing-netflix mood to a ready-to-seize-the-day attitude. Fashion is to me what music is to Beyoncé – empowering. Clothes empower me in a way that nothing else can, and I hope that that feeling never goes away.

Everything paired with a leather skirt, makes a good outfit. At least so you think, up until the moment you realize its 100 degrees outside. Faux leather, powerwalking and summer temperatures is arguably not the best mix.

Happy Monday – make the best of it! Personally, I have the entire week scheduled; in addition to various projects and assignments, I’m starting my new internship. I’m very excited, and can’t waut to tell you more about it. Equally exciting is my upcoming birthday. The plans aren’t set in stone, but I know it’s going to be great!

Any special plans for the week?

Even though I love my weekly routines, I love weekends more. Tonight, I’m heading down to FiDi to grab some drinks with a couple of friends. I’m not a big fan of the area, but I’m really envious of their gorgeous rooftop. Other than that I want see the exhibits at MoMA, run in Central Park, finish the book “I am Pilgrim”, and work on some school projects.

Any plans for the weekend? Xx Hanna

Thursday.

Sometimes you go for a run along East River, eat your veggies and do all of your assignments. Other days, you have oatmeal for breakfast, thinking your going to have a great, healthy day. But then you skip lunch, have pizza for dinner and ice-cream for dessert. Ben and Jerry’s Brownie Batter Core, to be exact. As you might have guessed, today was the latter – and I don’t even like Ice Cream.

Despite the depressive diet choices, it’s been a great day with school, fun and fashion – just the way I like it. After three business lectures, I stopped by Zara and & Other Stories, to update my wardrobe. I found a couple of great pieces that I couldn’t leave hanging. Sometimes, they just speak to you, you know? Either way, if I’m going to be able to shop as I do, I’ve realized that I need to spend less on everything else. $100 on food a month? Challenge accepted.

Anyways, I should probably stop rambling and go to bed. My body aches of exhaustion and I’m in desperate need of some beauty sleep before this weekends adventures – I have lots of exciting plans, and I can’t wait to tell you about them!

Leave your mark

Last semester, I had a course that emphasized the concept of personal branding; in short, marketing yourself as you would a brand. As my professor put it “If you cannot sell yourself, why should anyone believe you can sell anything else?”

The topic caught my attention, and since I started researching it, I’ve have learned a lot. The first lesson I learned was simple: to be the best, you have to learn from the best. Successful people have ways and methods regular people neglect. Simple ways of thinking that can help you achieve your goals. How do you learn these secrets? You read. The last couple of months I’ve been reading several business and industry books, gaining insights and ideas I wouldn’t thought of otherwise. “Leave Your Mark” by PR mogul Aliza Licht is my newest buy and I can’t wait to crack it open.

Have you read the book? If so, tell me what you think!

Happy

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES Processed with VSCO with f2 presetI was 12 years old when I first fell in love with the city of New York. In my pink jacket and matching bag, I strutted the streets with admiration and awe. The buildings stood taller than anything I had ever seen, the store displays dazzled every block, and the people had   a mysterious appeal. Everyone seemed occupied, yet so alive. It was magic, and this was going to be my fairytale.

9 years later and the city still gives me butterflies. Strolling the streets without a purpose, running along east river, smelling coffee on every street corner, hailing a yellow cab, meeting new people, shopping with friends, listening to talented street performers, admiring street art. Sometimes, it all feels just like that – a fairytale.

As with everything else, there are perks of cons of living in a vibrant city like New York. It’s loud, smelly and crowded. It’s tiring, and sometimes you feel exhausted. Sometimes you are sick of the polluted air and rude pedestrians.

Yet, that’s the charm of New York. It’s a chaotic, wonderful mess of a city that complements my dynamic personality in a way that makes me feel complete. Happy. It’s good to be back!

Tommy Pier

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURESLast night Tommy Hilfiger launched his collaboration with Gigi Hadid with a spectacular show at South Street Seaport. Unfortunately, I didn’t get my hands on these exclusive invitations. I did, however, visit the one-day carnival today, as it was open to the public.  The place was complete with carousels, hot dogs, lobster rolls, doughnuts, temporary tattoos, nail art, and of course, fashion. On the Pier, there were four different pop-up stores where you could by the collab, as well as other Tommy H pieces. A unique and creative way to approach the masses!SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURESSAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURESSAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURESSAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURESSAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

New York Fashion Week

SAM_4320 kopi.jpg

… has officially begun! After two morning lectures at Pace, I ordered an Uber and rushed to Chelsea studios at Pier 59. Feeling as fresh as I could after a long (and hot day) I found my seat and got ready for the show. I love the pre-show vibe. Everyone is dressed up, photographers are scavenger hunting for good outfits, and the room is filled with excitement and anticipation. When people are seated, usually 20 minutes late, the lights dim, the audience hushes, and the only sound are the click’s coming from all the cameras. The music starts and the models showcase the pieces. Instantly, an undeniable magic captivates everyone in the room.

SAM_4321 kopi.jpg

Even though I’m not working any shows this year, I’m lucky enough to attend a few. My first show for the week was Fashion Palette – Australian Swim/ S/S 2017. Great show with some great, mostly basic, designs. We’ll definitely see a lot of swimsuits, camisole dresses and bright colors next spring.

Today I’ve…

…had a great morning! I woke up, put on a face mask, and made myself a bowl of greek yoghurt that I enjoyed whilst doing my makeup and watching Mistresses. Yes, I’m a multitasker.

… cursed the Subways’ Air condition system. Every time you walk under ground, you’re hit with a wall of unbreathable air. It’s a hot, smelly and makes you feel disgusting in a matter of seconds.

… had my first lectures for the semester. Despite the heavy workload, I think this semester is going to be fun!

… panicked over the fact that it’s NYFW and I have nothing to wear. Consequently, after my last class I went to my favorite Zara store (222 Broadway) to browse. I ended up with a red leather skirt (my old is completely worn out) and a khaki blazer.

Processed with VSCO with f2 preset

… strolled around the city streets with a cup of Starbucks in my hand – that never get’s boring in New York.

And right now? Well, I’m eating sugarfree Jello-O whilst contemplating if I should go for a run now or tomorrow morning. I’m leaning towards the latter..

How was your day? Xx Hanna

Last days of summer

Since I got back to New York the days have gone ridiculously fast. To sum up the last few days in keywords; Summer, sun, (sunburns..), wine, friends, fun, workouts and, work. As you probably know already, I volunteer at the Norwegian Seamen’s church once in a while – it’s a great place to connect with new people, listen to their stories, and of course – eat waffles.

Today, on the other hand, Maria and I went to Central Park and enjoyed the last day of summer break. Tomorrow is the first day of my last year at Pace University, and I’m very excited. 1) Because I need to get back into good routines and 2) Because that means the end (of my bachelors) is near.

I’ll drop by tomorrow to let you know how it goes. Right know I’m trying to figure out what to wear. It’s a real challenge dressing for 30 Celsius (outside) , and an air-conditioned classroom. Wish me luck! Xx Hanna

A love/hate thing

Yesterday we went to IKEA to get some furniture and decor to spruce up the apartment. On my shopping list was something to replace my unreliable dresser that collapses every time I touch it. If it has something to do with my assembling skills, or IKEA’s design, I can’t say for sure.

Luckily, the trip to Brooklyn payed of and I ended up with a minimalistic shelf, a chair, sheets and some candles. I even managed to assemble the shelf without my usual “ikea outbursts”. It almost went to smooth to be true, so I’m praying to higher powers that the shelf won’t collapse. Just in case.

I love the new ambiance of the room – the perfect place to unwind and concentrate from the hectic city life.

Sephora Haul

Yesterday, Maria and I stopped by Sephora at Columbus Circle to restock some make-up necessities. Due to our overexcitement for makeup, and lack of shopping willpower, we ended up with a few items that weren’t on the list. Not as fun for the plastic as for us, but as Maria’s mum said humorously ” If you don’t look pretty now, you can’t blame Sephora” Here are some new additions, and old favorites.

SAM_4244 kopi.jpg

SKIN

Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation in color 5 – I have yet to fin a foundation better than this one. It truly creates that flawless skin every girl craves.

NARS Bronzing Powder in color Laguna – an old time favorite.

Anastasia Contour Cream Kit I loved the powdered contour palette, so I can’t wait to try this one. In my experience, creams often look more natural than powder.

BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector in Prosecco Pop/Pamplemousse. This brand is my go-to for highlighters, and these shades were perfect for summer.

(In addition to these products I use a primer from Smashbox and Dior, a corrector from Bobbi Brown, and a setting powder fro YSL.)

SAM_4240 kopi.jpg

EYES

Kat Von D tattoo liner. The only liquid eyeliner worth having. The super thin tip gives a flawless line in a matter of minutes. A godsend for those of us that are used to spending 30 minutes and a package of q-tips to create a somewhat OK line.

NARS Larger than Life Long Wear Eyeliner. To enhance and brighten.

Milk Eye Vinyl in color Bridge. A liquid eyeshadow that creates a simple, dewy look.

NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in color Light 2, Vanilla. Perfect coverage and easy to work with.

Urban Decay Eye Shadow Primer Potion, Original. This product singlehandedly changed my makeup game.

(In addition to this, I use Anastasia Brow Wiz and gel, Diorshow Mascara and various eyeshadows.)

LIPS

Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture in color 13. The perfect orange shade to compliment my soon to be tan skin.

And of course my beloved clear elastics. The rest are testers from Makeup Forever.

Summer of ’16

It’s been 2 months since my last post. What happened?  To be honest, I’m not sure. This summer flew by before I was able to spell the word itself. It may have something to do with the fact that I’ve been working around the clock. Even though I love my job, the walls of the local mall doesn’t exactly give you tropical vibes. Or a tan. In addition to selling shoes, I’ve been spending time with friends and family and enjoyed everything Norway has to offer – ranging from festivals to fishing trips.

IMG_6578

However, as the saying goes, vacation is good, but everyday life is better. Hence, I’m very excited to get back to the city and routines. This semester is going to be though, but simultaneously adventurous. Fashion week, work, birthdays, trips and spontaneity is all on the agenda. Or you can’t really plan to be spontaneous, but you get the picture. Either way, this fall is going to be great, and I can’t wait to fill you all in on the adventure. Stay tuned.
